Your feet play a very important role in your day-to-day life. We ask them to tolerate all sorts of forces and movement and sometimes pain develops.
A custom-made foot orthotic is a device inserted into your shoe designed to help your foot and lower limb to better manage loads and forces. Excessive tissue forces can be altered assisting painful tissues to recover. The design of the foot orthotics will depend on a detailed biomechanical examination and gait analysis, as well as your activity and footwear preferences.
The body is connected in what is called a kinetic chain, therefore the way our feet function has implications on the rest of our body. The correct footwear and orthotic may help relieve tissues of excess stress contributing to discomfort, both in the foot and higher up in the kinetic chain.
Conditions often treated by a Pedorthist:
-
Heel pain and/or plantar fasciitis
-
Metatarsal (forefoot) issues
-
Calf and Achilles tendon issues
-
Knee pain (including osteoarthritis and patellofemoral tracking dysfunction)
-
General foot and ankle symptoms
-
Arthritis and diabetes
We also offer footwear modifications and medical grade compression stockings.
Your orthotics are designed specifically for you to meet your biomechanical needs, activity requirements and footwear preferences, to help alleviate your pain and keep you moving.
I'm Angela Quick, a Canadian Certified Pedorthist passionate about helping others alleviate their foot pain. Stemming from an interest in both science and sport I graduted from the University of Guelph with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Human Kinetics. Finding fascination in understanding the function and biomechanics of the human body I continued my education at the University of Western Ontario obtaining a degree in Pedorthics in 2012, and later that year became a Canadian Certified Pedorthist.
